PCPM at the WHO Emergency Medical Teams Global Meeting in Addis Ababa!
Not long ago, we congratulated our Ethiopian partners on an important achievement: the certification of the Ethiopian National Emergency Medical Team by the WHO as an Emergency Medical Team Type 1 Fixed. Today, we are pleased to share the work of the Poland Medical Rescue Team PCPM and the MEDEVAC Hub in Jasionka at the EMT Global Meeting 2026 in Addis Ababa – the first-ever WHO EMT Global Meeting hosted in the WHO African Region. The event brings together EMT organisations, government representatives, health organisations and institutions, experts and partners from around the world. It provides a platform for sharing experience, strengthening cooperation and developing emergency response capacities in line with the EMT 2030 Strategy. For PCPM, this is a particularly significant moment.
Between 2021 and 2023, with funding from the Polish aid programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, we supported the development of Ethiopia’s EMT through training, mentoring, the preparation of local instructors and the provision of specialised equipment. Today, we can see the results of this long-term cooperation. The Ethiopian team now operates as a WHO-classified EMT Type 1 Fixed, and its development and work have also been recognised at the Global Meeting. The Ethiopian Minister of Health mentioned PCPM among the organisations supporting the development of Ethiopia’s emergency medical care system and its Emergency Medical Team. PCPM was also acknowledged in other presentations during the event. The presence of PCPM’s EMT in Addis Ababa is also an opportunity to showcase Poland’s experience in international health emergency response, including the work of the Medevac Hub in Jasionka, established by PCPM. MEDEVAC Hub is an important part of Europe’s and the global medical evacuation infrastructure. We would like to thank our Ethiopian partners: the Ministry of Health Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Public Health Institute, dr Nahom Tadelle, and all members of the team. We are proud to have been part of this journey – from its very first steps to where we are today.
